Marwick, MSP for the Glenrothes area, has called for the Scottish Parliament to congratulate the Glenrothes Gazette and East Fife Mail for its campaign to send shoeboxes filled with treats to soldiers in Afghanistan at Christmas.
The Glenrothes Gazette and the East Fife Mail went head to head to see which community could raise the most parcels for troops, working with the charity Parcels4Troops.

Mrs Marwick placed the motion to congratulate the Gazette for launching the ap
peal and to praise its readers' generosity for supporting the initiative.

And within 24 hours of the motion being placed, it had already received the support of more than a dozen MSPs.

Mrs Marwick said: "I was delighted to place a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating the Glenrothes Gazette for its shoebox appeal and I am heartened by the early response it has received.

"The shoebox appeal has been an absolutely amazing success so far and both the Glenrothes Gazette and East Fife Mail deserve great credit for launching this appeal. I am sure these shoeboxes filled full of treats will bring some festive cheer to our troops in Afghanistan.

"The generosity of the people of Glenrothes and the surrounding areas during this initiative has been overwhelming. It only serves to highlight what great community spirit our town has."
