THE infamous Carbuncle award will be staying in Glenrothes a little longer than was expected.
When the town was awarded the notorious 'plook on the plinth' award for being the most dismal town in Scotland last February, it was expected Glenrothes would only hold that 'honour' for a calendar year.
However the organisers, Urban Realm Magazin
e (formerly Prospect Magazine) have announced changes to the award which is to become a UK wide award with new regional stages.
The winner isn't expected to be announced until late summer at the earliest, so Glenrothes for now, still has the award.
John Glenday spokesman for the architecture magazine which also organised the Saving Down Towns conference in Glenrothes, explained the new process for the dreaded Carbuncle Award.
He said: ''It's still in the early stages, we are currently doing the long list and are looking down south for possible winners. Scotland will now just be one of five districts. We have a roadshow in the spring with the winner not announced until maybe as late as the Autumn.''
Mr Glenday stated what 'qualities' they are looking for in a Carbuncle town and revealed that Glenrothes could retain the dreaded title.
''It's open to anyone at this stage so Glenrothes is certainly in contention to retain its title.''
