A FLOOD on a major Glenrothes road may have been caused by something as simple as as a discarded cola can.
Council engineers will this week try to get to the root of the problem which left part of Woodside Road under several feet of water last Thursday.

Traffic had to be diverted away from the section of the route which is crossed by the A92 overpass after it filled with water amid a torrential downpour.

Special tenders had to be called in to pump water away from the road, but it remained closed for most fo the day.

Fife's transport department is determined to make sure there is no repetition of last midweek's closure.

Spokesman Bill Liddle said: "We are going to get a jetting unit in, just to make sure everything is clear down there. The problem is that if it floods down there, that's the road effectively blocked."

The weather also played havoc with the local junior and amateur football card. Waterlogged pitches saw the cancellation of Thornton Hibs East Central League match with Steelend Victoria and other minor grade games fell victim to the elements.
