THE Glenrothes Gazette's Afghanistan soldiers shoebox appeal has received star backing - all the way from Hollywood.
Dougray Scott, real name Steven, was raised in Glenrothes and attended Auchmuty High School before beginning his acting career. He is now an established big screen star whose credits include 'Mission Impossible:2"

He said: "Being away from family and home at any time is difficult, but being away at Christmas in the middle of a war must be something most of us can't begin to understand."

He told the troops: "I greatly admire your courage, because I know it's something I could never do. You are fighting a war thousands of miles from home in appalling conditions You are doing your job in the very best way you can. I really hope that the campaign ends soon and that you can return safely to your loved ones."
