WEST FIFE pharmacist Lucia Castagnetti has won a prestigious title at the annual Scottish Pharmacy Awards.
Lucia, who works at the Co-operative Pharmacy in Crossgates, won the 'managing healthcare services in the community' category, at the awards evening held in Glasgow.
The award was in recognition of additional services she runs both at the pharmacy, in Main Street, Crossgates, and at a local GPs' surgery.
As well as all her usual tasks, Lucia runs sessions aimed at helping local people who are suffering from asthma and other respiratory problems.
"It is an area I have a personal interest in," said Lucia.
"I identified that the local community had a high proportion of ex-miners and smokers, which meant rates of asthma and respiratory problems were higher than usual."
By running extra sessions on Saturday mornings, as well as during the week, Lucia was able to ensure patients who might otherwise have missed out due to work commitments were also able to benefit.
She added: "It's nice to be recognised for what I've done, and to know that people really do appreciate how something quite simple can help people and make a difference in the local community."
The awards are organised by Scottish Chemist Review magazine, and the prizegiving ceremony was held at the Hilton International Hotel in Glasgow.
