Plans to revive Methil Gala Day proved a resounding success on Saturday, with more than 500 locals turning out to welcome the event back to Wellesley Parish Church.

The day started with actor Clive Russell performing the opening honours and spending the afternoon at the gala.

Stalls from many local groups and organisations were kept busy in the showcase marquee.

The ‘Royal Party’ ceremony was a highlight when Sophie Robb and Matthew Stenhouse were crowned as Lord and Lady Wellesley by Robert Balfour, the Lord Lieutenant of Fife, following a procession led by Kennoway Town Pipe Band, and escorted by Methil Sea Cadets.

Town crier Harry Hancock announced the arrival of the Royal Party and introduced the attendants and footmen.

Winner of ‘Wellesley’s Got Talent’ was Jessica Miller, Medieval Methil provided activities and the popular laughter yoga and puppet workshop were much appreciated.

Gillian Paterson, minister at Wellesley Parish, said the day had been a great family success.

“We would not have been able to put on the event without the help of a huge army of volunteers from the Church, Methil Sea Cadets, pupils from Kirkland High School, the staff of Aberhill Primary School and many groups and organisations in the area,” she said.
