Counting under way in People’s Pick
A Queer Like Smell by E. Barrett, the winning painting in the FFP 'People's Pick' competition
The votes are in and being counted for The People’s Pick – a campaign to find out which of Kirkcaldy Museum’s paintings are the public’s favourites, and why!
Voting began last August, and since then over 800 votes have been cast, with the most popular works due to go on show when the museum reopens after refurbishment in June.
Fife Free Press readers have also been having their say, with votes made going into a prize draw. The winner picked out of the hat was Michael Clark from Kirkcaldy.
Seventy-eight year old Mr Clark was delighted to hear he had won, and explained why he picked A Queer Like Smell by E. Barrett (shown left) as his favourite work.
“I chose the painting because I spent 42 years working in the linoleum factories so I remember that “queer like smell” vividly,” he said. “I used to find it fascinating watching the girls laying the shapes ready for production.
“This is the first time in my 70-odd years that I’ve won anything. It just shows that it’s never too late!”
