Rio

I’m a sucker for a good animated film – and they don’t come much better than Rio! With its outstanding imagery and beautifully depicted scenery, even if you are not a cartoon connoisseur, you will be enthralled.

It’s a great misconception that you have to be under the age of 12 to appreciate a good animation, after all we’re all big kids at heart aren’t we, and this is a great way to escape for a few hours.

The colourful characters in Rio feature the voices of a few megastars into the bargain – Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx and Will i Am to start with.

Blu is a domesticated blue macaw living in harmony in Minnesota with his bookstore owner Linda, when a Brazilian ornithologist turns up on their doorstep trying to persuade them to travel to Rio to pair Blu up with the last remaining female blue macaw to continue the species.

So begins an amazing adventure featuring kid - or rather birdnapping, daring escapes, carnivals and the obligatory smattering of romance.

Sit back, get the popcorn out and enjoy the ride!
