ST MONANS Community Choir has committed its talent to CD.

When the choir performed “A Fife Cantata” at last year’s Community Arts Festival, it was thought that it would be a good idea to have a lasting version of this very local work made for the village.

“A Fife Cantata” was especially written for the third festival in 2011. It is a setting of five poems by local poet John Brewster, with music by choir director Brian Craib.

The performance was accompanied by the rest of the Craib family – Ruth, Andrew and Hannah. Inspired by the project, local artist and choir member, Martin F Salvage, produced a painting based on the work.

The choir applied for, and was granted, funding from the Lottery’s “Awards for All Scotland” to enable it to make a CD.

So choir and instrumentalists came to together in the Parish Church Hall in February to record “A Fife Cantata”, along with a selection of popular songs.

“We were very grateful for the professional help of Marcin Buczek of DM Audio in making the recording,” said Ruth Craib.

“It proved to be an interesting experience for all involved and the CD is now ready for launch.

“Local input has continued in the making of the CD with choir member George Brown making the CD and booklet design (pictured), an adaptation of Martin’s painting being used as the front cover and photography by postmaster Peter Marr and choir member Vicki Salvage.

“It is quite remarkable the skills available in St Monans!”

The choir plans to launch the CD at a concert in the Mayview Hotel this Friday at 7.30pm. when it will be previewing its programme to be performed in a concert tour to Krakow, Poland, next week. Entry to the concert will be by donation towards the St Monans defibrillator fund.
