A LOCAL councillor is supporting a national campaign which has put a family-friendly twist on footy chants in a bid to get dads singing to their children.

Chairman of the Tartan Army Children’s Charity, Levenmouth Councillor Ally Hunter said the charity was delighted to throw its support behind the national ‘play, talk, read’ campaign, which focuses on increasing quality parent and child time, particularly for children under three.

The dad of four added: “This is a great way to share something you love with your children and spend quality time with them. We know playing and interacting with children in the early years helps development and leads to better outcomes in later life.”

The Tartan Army Children’s Charity hopes its support will encourage members to use football as a way of connecting with their children.

Mr Hunter said he had taken the campaign to heart and tried out some of the re-jigged footy songs at home.

He added: “My older kids do sometimes tell me to shut-up because I’m always singing at home. But my youngest son, Logan, is two years old, and he loves the contact and interaction.”

Some of the footy-inspired tunes include a re-write of the well known Tartan Army chant and a jingle celebrating mashed banana.

Here are the lyrics, in case you want to try them for yourself.

We’ll be headin’, we’ll be headin’

We’ll be headin’ up to bed

When it’s six o’clock

Then yer cradle’s gonnae rock

If you love a mashed banana:

If you love a mashed banana clap your hands

If you love a mashed banana clap your hands

If you love a mashed banana

Love a mashed banana

Love a mashed banana clap your hands
