Glenrothes Art Club AGM.
GLENROTHES Art Club has held its annual general meeting, reports MIKE DELANEY.
And members were told that the club - based in Alburne Park’s Cottar House Studios - is in fine fettle in its 57th year.
A large turnout of members heard reports from office bearers before electing a new committee.
Secretary Ian Sloan said: “The club is strong.
“We have almost 70 members and there are groups using the Club Rooms every day of the week except Sunday. “The new crafts afternoon on a Tuesday has really taken off and has quickly become an established feature of the club.
“Fundraising is always difficult, but the open days, unframed sales, lunches at the Training Restaurant at the Stenton Campus of Adam Smith College and the annual exhibition all bring in funds.
“This year the exhibition will run from 13 August for six weeks in the fifespace Gallery, upstairs in Rothes Halls.
“We received £3500 in grants last year - £1500 to run the ‘Smart and Safe’ poster project for teenagers and £2000 from the Glenrothes Area Arts Endowment Trust, who were winding up.
“So far this year we have already received a grant from Fife Council to help the crafts group get essential equipment.
“The club is not rich - we keep our annual fees low so that people are not excluded on financial grounds - the equivalent of under 80p per week for concessionary members and we do not charge per use of the Club Rooms.
“Our workshops and classes generate lots of interest, as well as the social events such as summer events, Christmas dinner and fun days.
“Our website attracts a lot of visits and is popular with members and ‘visitors’ alike.
“A major task coming up is to bring the studios up to 21st century standard.
“This will involve a lot of time and effort by the committee and members and the possibility of a lottery heritage grant is being investigated.
“The building in Alburne Park is very old, part of the ‘pre-history’ of Glenrothes, and we do not want it lost to future generations.
“The club remains vibrant and looks forward to another season of leading the way in arts and crafts in the Glenrothes area.”
The new committee includes: Lilian Sloan (President); Gill Low (Vice-President); Grant Newell (treasurer); Ian Sloan (secretary); and Chris Moore, Helen Morrow and Maureen McInnes (committee members).
