Dennis Alexander - 20 years in music
KIRKCALDY entertainer Dennis Alexander is celebrating 20 years in music - by embarking on a new venture.
Two decades ago Dennis took the plunge and left a well paid career to follow his love of music.
Since then his life has been a whirl of gigs, travel and fun.
As one half of the well known duo Crooked Jack, which still survives today, Dennis has not only covered almost every inch of Scotland, but has now almost the whole of New Zealand, where the pair have built up a huge following.
“It has been a great experience to travel to so many places and have so many great times,” said Dennis, who has founded his career on traditional Scottish folk music.
Alongside all this, he also found the time to run four well known businesses in Kirkcaldy, which he sold last year to concentrate on his music.
Crooked Jack always tried to be innovative and were well known for their children’s concerts.
They featured the ‘Skull Crushers Show’ and the ‘Giant Jeely Piece Show.’
Milestone
For their Crooked Jack Weekends they led large numbers of people astray at the end of their summer season, and then they set off on their travels to Thailand, Bahrain, Europe, Australia and New Zealand for ceilidhs and concerts.
Dennis (59), who lives in Kirkcaldy, had been scratching his head for some time for a way to mark the 20 years milestone and has come up with an idea that will set him off on many new adventures.
Scotch Broth is a brand new children’s show which has already captured the imagination of many of the big Scottish Festivals with bookings confirmed at The Big Tent in Falkland, Belladrum, The Sanday Soulka in Orkney, the Leith Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe within the next few months.
He will also launch his new show for grown ups called ‘Songs, Stories and Downright Lies.’
The official launch of the new show and Scotch Broth CD will take place at a special 20-year celebration Garden Party in Adam Smith’s Secret Garden at 220 High Street on Sunday, June 3, at 1.00 p.m.
He is extending an open invitation to anyone who wants to come to see not only the launch but also performances from some of his long time musical friends.
Entry will be by a donation to Alzheimers Scotland.
