This year’s Gillian Parsons’ Memorial Golf Day in aid of our Maggie’s Centre is already a sell out success.
Now celebrating its 11th year, the event is becoming more and more popular, with teams lining up to take part in the event at Dunnikier Golf Club.
This year’s tournament will take place on August 21, with teams competing for a trophy.
The event has been organised from the outset by Shona Hutchison, sister of Gillian Parsons, who died at a young age from cancer. She and fellow organiser, David Foster, are delighted that the event is still going strong a decade on.
Shona said: “I’m looking forward to another successful golf day in aid of Maggies Fife. The golf day is held each year in memory of my sister who was an active friend of Maggies Fife during the initial fundraising for the centre.
“She had used the Maggies Centre Edinburgh during her illness and found it a great help and wanted to ensure there was a centre here in Fife, and it makes me proud to still be running this event in her memory 11 years on, supporting the running costs to keep Maggie’s Fife open during the centre’s tenth year.”
Maggie’s Fife provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friends and is based at the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy where anyone affected by cancer can drop in Monday–Friday 9am–5pm.
Alison Harrow, centre head, said: “Each year this amazing event is a sell out and that is down to the hard work of Shona, David and everyone who supports it. The funds raised will go towards ensuring we can provide our core programme of support for people with cancer, their family and friends.”
