ADAM Smith College hairdressing students created a fantasy world of mystical enchantment and candy forests recently to demonstrate their skills in cutting, colouring and styling hair.

The showcase involved 15 students who are all studying SVQ Level 3 hairdressing at the College’s St Brycedale Campus in Kirkcaldy.

Fellow students, staff and guests attended the event to watch each student introduce their three models and explain their inspirations and techniques used to create the hair styles.

To complement the candy and mystical theme, the hair students worked with beauty students to complete each model’s look with eye catching make-up and decorations. The students also briefed fellow art students, who are studying NC Introduction to Creative Arts, to produce an amazing mystical tree and candy cane back drop for the show.

Lecturer Yvonne Morrison was extremely proud of all the students and acknowledged the hard work they had all put in.

She said: “The show was a fantastic way to bring together and highlight the students’ skills and creativity. They have organised everything themselves and I am very pleased with the way they have involved students from other areas within the College who have also produced some fantastic work.”

Student Janice Cunningham (26), from Leven, who works at Fusion in the High Street, said: “The course has been excellent and I have gained a great deal of new skills and techniques since joining the class last year.

“Getting everything ready for the showcase was hard work but great fun.

“My theme was the mystical enchantment category and films such as Harry Potter and actress Helena Bonham Carter’s style inspired the look I created for my models. I really enjoy my job at the salon and long term I hope to come back and study the HNC hairdressing course.”
