her big break

HOT on the heels of A-list movie stars Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth filming in the Kingdom, Fife has once again been put on the acting map, but this time for its home-grown talent.
Aspiring actress Sam Hardie (18) from Windygates has won a place to represent Scotland at an international youth theatre festival this summer.
She is set to travel to Stavanger, Norway, in August, where she will team up with seven other young actors and actresses from Scotland to create a new Scottish company that will showcase a specially produced piece at the RE:LOCATION festival.
Hosted by the Rogaland Theatre, five other countries will also be sending the best of their acting talent to perform at the 10-day event.
Sam, a former pupil at Bell Baxter High, is delighted at the opportunity for her big break.
She told the Mail: “I’m so excited. Acting is what I want to do as a career, so this is a really good stepping stone and a chance to get out there.
“Over 400 young people from all across Scotland applied and just eight of us have got it.
“I love acting, I’m not doing it to become famous, so wherever I end up, if I get to be acting every day then I will be happy that I am doing what I love.”
Since leaving school Sam has been working as a youth acts assistant at Buckhaven based Kinetic Theatre.
It was Kinetic which nominated her to take part in group auditions at the National Theatre of Scotland in Glasgow, and understandably she feels she has a lot to thank it for.
Sam added: “I’ve done a lot of theatre with Kinetic in the past including two tours around Scotland and a tour round the UK.
“Kinetic being in Fife is a huge thing because with me wanting to do this I’m constantly having to travel to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
“It’s great to have it in Buckhaven - giving people a massive opportunity to do tours round Scotland and the UK.”
After her Norway trip, Sam is set to go to Telford College in Edinburgh to study for an HND in an acting and performing course and is applying to a number of drama schools in London.
