A KIRKCALDY man is set to undertake a series of gruelling activities all in the name of charity.

Neil Lawson will take part in a number of bike and walking charity events to raise money for worthy causes and has already started with a 20 mile walk around Scone Palace.

“I did it fine, it was no bother,” he said. “There were 700 women and me! I’m doing the Moonwalk in Edinburgh too. I did it last year and really enjoyed it.”

Fitness fanatic Neil began to take part in charity events three years ago as a way of getting fit.

He said “My parents were both ill and I thought it would be a good way to raise some money for the charities that were helping them. They’re no longer with us now but I enjoyed taking part in these sorts of events so I’ve kept it going.”

After the Moonwalk Neil has a series of biking events lined up including two 100k and a Glasgow to Edinburgh bike ride. “I prefer doing the bike rides,” he said. “And I manage to fit in the training around work. My wife says I’m obsessed and am doing too much; my son Callum says I’m just a medal collector!”

Neil has chosen Action Medical Research For Children, Breast Cancer Care and Maggie’s as the charities to raise money for, with help from Sandy Auchterlonie, Director of Fife Plumbing Supplies, as his main sponsor.

“It’s hard but it’s worth it,” he said.
