A set packed with lovely surprises as Horse McDonald returns to Kirkcaldy ...

Beveridge Park Hotel, Kirkcaldy

There were some lovely surprises in Horse McDonald’s set as she brought her band ‘home’ to Kirkcaldy for the final date on this leg of their current tour.

There were covers of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Big Love’ and Lady Antebellum’s ‘‘Need You Now’’ as well as a beautiful rendition of ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Miserables which flowed pefectly into her own signature song ‘Home.’

But the loveliest surprise was her dedication of ‘God’s Home Movie’ to the late Dennis Alexander.

It’s just a year since Dennis hosted Horse and Coaltown Daisies at the same venue - another wonderful evening of music - and I am sure he would have loved to hear her return with her full band for a night of music old and new.

Her current album, the outstanding ‘Home’ featured heavily throughout the set along with some classic Horse, all the way back to ‘The Same Sky.’

Stand-outs? Take you pick from ‘Alana’ to ‘I Am ‘ to a strong ‘I Adore You’ as well as a thumping ‘Forgiven’ ... just a few choices from a show which had several encoures and a standing ovation.
