Rich Hall heads to Lochgelly for a hoedown

It was pretty much gone midnight, the venue was packed and hot, and on to the stage stepped Rich Hall and his band.

As gigs go, it was slightly nuts, wonderfully entertaining ... and the music was every bit as sharp as the comedy.

It was the perfect late night event at the Edinbugh Fringe – one which somehow leads to a bar for an aftershow drink and then, before you know it, it’s gone 5.00 a.m. and you’re still up town.

Hall makes this music and comedy malarkey look easy.

That night, the bar was pitched ON the stage and he insisted we simply mosey down to place our orders.

Few, if any performers, would simply carry on as folk wandered around the stage to get a round in. Hall took it all in his stride.

He also threw the floor open to the audience to come up with characters and a plot which he then fashioned into a song made up on the spot.

As a comedian, he is razor sharp. Little misses his weary eye.

As a musician, well he’s as good as any you’ll see on the late night circuit.

And when you put those elements together, you get a show once seen, rarely forgotten.

If you haven’t been to a Rich Hall hoedown, then his visit to Lochgelly is the perfect introduction.

You may have a seat – just don’t expect to be sitting in all night long.

Hall comes to the venue on Thursday, March 16 as part of his current UK tour.

His CV packs a mighty punch.

He’s a comedian, writer, acclaimed documentary maker and musician – few can match that.

He’s been a regular on all the panel shows on telly.

You’ve seen him on everything from Stand Up For The Week, QI, and Have I Got News For You to Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

He’s done all the big shows such as Live At The Apollo and Channel4’s comedy galas.

And he is highly regarded as one of the funniest comedians to come out of the US in recent times.

He is one smart guy as his documentaries on BBC4 have demonstrated time and again.

But to appreciate his sharp wit and absurd irony, you have to see the ole’ grouch live on stage.
