YOUNG people from Madras College, St Andrews, have the opportunity to take their bike skills to a new level, thanks to the success of a lottery funding application.

The cash injection has allowed the purchase of seven new mountain bikes and portable bike track to be located around the school grounds.

The project, initiated by teachers Gavin Waterston and Jim Tarvet, and pupils from the department of additional support, is aimed at helping them develop their social skills and increase their self confidence.

With assistance from Active Schools, Madras is looking to use the equipment to set up an extra curricular club for mountain biking in the summer term. The pupils will also learn to perform safety checks and undertake simple bike maintenance tasks.
