Dozens of runners from the St Andrews area travelled to Dumfries last weekend for one of the most physically challenging events around - Tough Mudder 2015.

The 40 participants, many of them members of St Andrews Adventure Running Team (STAART), proved they were all real ‘tough mudders’, enduring all kinds of hardships over the 11-mile obstacle course, designed to test physical strength and mental grit, at Drumlanrig Castle.

“The event was just incredible,” said Chris Wallard. “The whole team have trained together for months, even in the depths of winter.

“Over the 11 miles we were electrocuted, tear-gassed, had to scale four-metre walls by climbing on top of each other and were plunged into freezing cold water. Despite that we couldn’t stop grinning from start to finish.”
