FAMILIES from across north east Fife are being invited to join in a family fun day being held in Ceres to raise vital funds for a children’s cancer charity.
Jordan Laing (13), his mum Norma Hopkins, and their family and friends including Sarah Buttercase, have organised Sunday’s event to raise funds for CCLASP (Children with Cancer and Leukaemia Advice and Support for Parents).
Last year Sarah, Natalie Fayle, Tanya Gracie, Lorna Gracie and Gareth Rowlands organised a family fun day to raise funds for Jordan who, at that stage, was critically ill in hospital after being diagnosed with a medulloblastoma - a brain tumour which had spread down his spine.
Since then Jordan has shown enormous bravery enduring both surgery and intensive radiotherapy.
During his time at the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh the family were lucky to have the support of CCLASP, which provided transport for Jordan from the Sick Kids to the Western General Hospital where he received radiotherapy twice a day for four weeks.
The family also enjoyed a caravan holiday in Berwick thanks to the charity.
Jordan’s cancer is now in remission and his mum’s fundraising efforts for CCLASP will also include a sponsored abseil 220 feet down Stirling’s Wallace Monument.
The abseil was supposed to have taken place on Saturday but had to be postponed due to high winds.
Speaking about the fun day she said: “Last year ‘Jordan’s fun day’ was a big success and brought the whole community together. We are hoping we can do the same this year and make it a true family day out.
“One thing this experience has taught us is that family and friends are the most important things.”
The day offers a huge variety of attractions including a massive bouncy castle, a stock car which visitors can sit in, a fire engine, and live music from a DJ and a band Ollie and Jamie aka ‘The Shrugs’.
There will also be a barbecue with burgers being donated by Ceres Butchers, face painting and an arts and crafts corner where visitors can paint their own canvas or design their own t-shirt.
Fife Animal Park is taking along a selection of animals while Inspired Falconry will let visitors get up close to some amazing birds of prey.
Activities also include putting, a beat the ‘Disney’ goalie, with goalposts provided by AM Soccer, and a clown from CCLASP who will put on a magic show.
Those in need of some hands on healing should visit the women from Holistic Therapies who wll be providing 15 minute relaxation sessions in return for a donation to CCLASP.
The event is free and runs from noon - 4pm.
School children from Ceres Primary School recently helped organisers design a banner and it will be on display for all to see this Sunday.
In the event of bad weather the fun day will be postponed and a new date set.
