NEXT week sees the Olympic Torch Relay reach Fife.

Despite not entering the Mail’s circulation area, in Levenmouth and the East Neuk, two readers will be at the forefront of the festivities as they have been selected as torch bearers.

Both were picked after being nominated for the Bank of Scotland’s selection process.

First up, Sula Powell (15), of Windygates, will carry the flame through Cupar on Tuesday afternoon at 4.35pm.

Sula, who is the current Miss Teen Fife and was a finalist for Miss Teen Great Britain 2011 and Europe’s Perfect Teen 2011, was nominated for the honour in recognition of the charity work, including for Cancer Research, Maggies, CHAS and RDA help, which she carries out on a regular basis.

Following on from Sula, Ricky Williamson (17), of Leven, will carry the flame through Leuchars at around 5.53pm between Main Street (near Wessex Avenue) and School Hill.

Ricky, who is studying Community Learning and Development at Adam Smith College, runs an O2 UK Think Big Project called Fife Youth Radio. He was nominated for the community work he carries out, despite his young age, in a bid to create a happier atmosphere in the local area, as well as giving fellow young people an opportunity to shine and explore their hidden talents.

An average of 115 torchbearers a day are taking part in the relay, including a number of others from Fife.

Among them are Joe Forrester (13), of St Andrews, who will help carry the torch through his home town while fellow St Andreans Sandie Kennedy (46), James Anderson (22) and Dawn Doherty (40) will take part in the relay through Guardbridge.

Maurice Paterson (30), of Newport, will help carry the flame through Balbeggie, Perthshire.

One of the youngest participants is 11-year-old Keiran Rae, a pupil at Falkland House School, who will help carry the torch through Dunfermline on June 13.

The torch will arrive in Fife on Tuesday in Newburgh at 4.01pm and travel through Cupar, Dairsie, Guardbridge and Leuchars before attending an evening celebration in Dundee.

It will return to the Kingdom early the following day, starting out at St Andrews from 7am.

From there it will travel to another evening celebration in Edinburgh, taking in Cairneyhill, Crossford and Dunfermline.
