Leven Rose Queen Rebecca Balfour

Leven Rose Queen Rebecca Balfour

THE planning and hard work is almost complete for Leven’s Rose Queen Day and Civic Week, due to get under way at Carberry House this Saturday, June 9.

The fun will start at noon with children’s rides, bouncy castles, sideshows, community stalls and refreshments.

The Rose Queen Day Community Concert is at 12.30pm, featuring primary school choirs from Parkhill, St Agatha’s and Mountfleurie.

Regular entertainers will be joined this year by a few newcomers, including Irish dancers Absolutely Legless, Taste of The Philippines dance group and the Enigma gymnastics team.

The fancy dress competition is at 2pm, while this year’s Rose Queen, Rebecca Balfour (left), will be crowned at 3pm by local solicitor Lynn Herbert.

Rebecca, a P7 pupil at Parkhill, will receive her sceptre from 2011 Rose Queen Briony Brown.

Afterwards, a walking parade, led by Kennoway Town Pipe Band, will take place through Leven.

On Sunday, the Rose Queen party will attend the 11am Civic Week service at Leven Parish Church and visit the residents of Scoonie House.

Also on June 10, the one-day, one gig, three-venue music spectacular known as ‘Exile On North Street’ is making a return.

Molly Malone’s, The Windsor and Mcphail’s are hosting the event.

Details of all events are on Leven Civic Week website www.levencivicweek.btck.co.uk.
