A MAN who drove at 100mph on the A92 with his pregnant girlfriend in the car has been fined £450 and banned from driving for 160 days.
Gavin Brown (29) was spotted by a speed camera enforcement officer near the Forgan roundabout as he raced along the busy dual carriageway, Cupar Sheriff Court heard.
The young woman had been sick in his vehicle as they left the Tay Bridge and he was taking her to the home of her grandmother, a retired nurse, at Clayton Caravan Park - but he didn’t realise he was driving so fast, his solicitor told the court.
Brown, of Clepington Road, Dundee, admitted committing the offence on October 28 last year. The court heard that it happened at around mid-day, when there was other traffic in both lanes.
Passing sentence, Sheriff Charles Macnair told Brown that he had not only put himself at risk but his girlfriend and unborn child too.
“Other drivers should be able to drive in the anticipation that others drive at a reasonable speed,” he said.
“By no stretch of the imagination is 100mph a reasonable speed.”
