Police have arrested and charged a teenage boy following vandalism at a Fife church.

Serious damage was caused to the stonework of the medieval St Bridget’s Kirk on the outskirts of Dalgety Bay on March 24.

Inspector Tom Barrett of Dalgety Bay said: “I want to thank the local community for their patience and support while we conducted our enquiries.

“Please be assured that we’ll continue to work closely with Historic Environment Scotland (HES) to preserve the beauty of this local landmark.”

A spokesman for HES said: “We know that the community highly value their local heritage and recognise the importance of this ancient monument, and we would like to thank them, and Police Scotland, for their vigilance.

“Their involvement helps to ensure that this nationally significant monument will be protected for future generations to enjoy for years to come.”

The 15-year-old will be reported to the Children’s Reporter.
