green-fingered Langtonians are delighted at the opening of another 21 allotment plots in Kirkcaldy.
After waiting more than five years for new allotments in the town, a second site in Glamis Road has now opened, giving another 21 people the chance to grow their own produce and enjoy the associated benefits of being out in the fresh air.
The Glamis Road allotments follow the opening of the 42-plot allotment site within the Ravenscraig Walled Garden. Most plots have now been allocated at both sites and delighted allotmenteers are busy planning and digging.
Angela Rough, the site representative at Glamis Road, said: “Plotholders are delighted with their allotments, some having waited five years on the list.
“Everyone is full of enthusiasm and getting to know each other by sharing tips and swapping tools to get both sites off to a great start for the 2012 growing season.”
In addition, another site containing four allotment plots will open in East March Street by the end of this month. It is currently being prepared to accept new tenants.
Kirkcaldy Community Gardens and Allotments CIC will manage both of the completed sites and their associated community gardens at Ravenscraig and Glamis Road. It would like to hear from any community groups which could benefit from a growing area within the town, as well as from any volunteers who would be prepared to help develop the gardens.
