COMMUNITY activists are trying to block the demolition of a historic building in Falkland.

Kingdom Homes wants to tear down Edward House and replace it with a new property.

The company currently uses the building as a 27-bed private nursing home.

It claims the building is no longer suitable for frail, elderly people and other options – including extension – are not viable.

But there is opposition to both the demolition plan and the new three-storey property envisaged.

Falkland Community Council chairman Anthony Garrett said: "We do not support the demolition of a building of great character and insist that any replacement is architecturally in keeping."
