A ST Andrews-based charity, which funds pioneering world-wide research into cancer, was praised this week by Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon.
The minister was in the town on Tuesday morning when she visited the offices of the Association for International Cancer Research (AICR).
Meeting with scientific and fund-raising staff at AICR's South Street base, Ms Sturgeon paid tribute to the "major contribution" made by the voluntary sector to supporting cancer research and care.
She told the Citizen: "Thanks to the AICR here in Fife, hundreds of projects in more than two dozen countries are looking into how to improve cancer treatment and prevention.
"I am very impressed that a relatively small charity — which does not have a big profile — achieves such an amazing amount.
