KINGHORN lifeboat is gearing up for another very busy year after being called out twice over the weekend.
And the two latest rescues bring the total to eight already this year - with six of them in the last two weeks!
The RNLI's new lifeboat the 'Tommy Niven', which is due to be officially named at the weekend, has had a busy start to the year, and could be on track to beat the station record of 70 call outs in 2007.
The first call of the weekend, on Sunday afternoon saw the crew paged by the Coastguard following reports that a man on a jet ski was in trouble in the Forth just off Burntisland.
Within minutes they were on the scene to discover that the jet ski had broken down, and the crew of Leanne Fisher, Luke Williams and Ian Tulloch, were able to safely tow the man to the slipway at Burntisland.
In the second incident the sleeping volunteers had an early alarm call when they were again paged by the Coastguard about 5.30 a.m. on Monday to attend a fishing boat drifting off Port Seton.
The lifeboat crew managed to tow the boat into harbour in a difficult rescue as the tide was going out.
The captain of the vessel was so delighted with the rescue that he gave the crew, Scott McIlravie, Neil Chalmers and Ian Tulloch, a generous helping of fresh prawns for their efforts.
Dunc Ormiston, press officer for the Kinghorn Lifeboat, said: "We have had a very busy start to the year as call outs usually don't start coming in until after the end of March when the boating season starts.
"Hopefully this is not going to be a record year for rescues – but you can never tell.
''Usually the numbers climb as the months go on, so we will be prepared."
