IT took a tie-break and a sudden death play-off before St Columba's Primary School, Cupar, emerged the victors of the Rotary primary schools quiz local heat.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Cupar, seven teams from six schools took part in the quiz event at Castlehill Primary School.

After 10 rounds from the question master, Rotarian Ian Copland, the three leading teams had to be separated by a tie-break, with Castlehill and St Columba's then requiring a sudden death play-off.

The St Columba's team — Nicole Lambert, Patrick Williams, Harry Winter and Denis Potter — progressed to the competition's next round at Dundee.

The Cupar students did not place in the top three at this level, but again competition was fierce among the 12 teams.

Arduthie Primary School was the outright winner, but a tie-break and sudden death play-off was again needed to determine the other placings.

In the end Greyfriars RC Primary School, St Andrews, came second and Tayport Primary School third.

The top three teams now progress to the district final, to be held in Dundee in June.
