NHS FIFE has responded to criticisms that results of an investigation into ill-health caused by local telecommunications equipment were never concluded or made public.
Residents of Drumcarrow Craig, near St Andrews, claim to have been left in the dark more than two years ago when Fife health officials failed to complete a study into whether serious illnesses such as cancer and motor neurone disease could be linked to a Dolphin Communication Systems network, then operating from a Tetra mast in their area.

A spokesperson for NHS Fife told the Citizen last week that investigators never intended for the report to be made public, especially as it contained nothing "controversial."

Increased complaints of ill-health and pressure from local councillors forced the Fife NHS board to convene a technical team of investigators to look into the allegations in April 2004.

An interim summary of research, led by then head of public health, Dr Leslie Macdonald, was presented to some community representatives in June 2005 but the results did not go back to the residents as expected.
