health and happiness are two things student nurse Stephanie King from Kirkcaldy has in abundance after shedding an incredible 8½ stone with help from Scottish Slimmers.
And her hard work all paid off at the weekend when a delighted Steph scooped the top prize in the Health and Happiness category of the Scottish Slimmers Slimmer of the Year 2012 awards in Glasgow.
Twenty-three of the country’s most inspirational slimmers gathered at the city’s Crown Plaza Hotel on Sunday for the awards which encompassed all ages and walks of life from around Scotland.
Stephanie’s proud fiancé Fraser Lawson, as well as her mum and dad, were all there to cheer on their super slimmer.
Said Stephanie: “I can’t believe it. It was an amazing day and everyone there was a winner – for being a loser!”
From as far away as Orkney and Shetland to Carlisle and all places in between the slimmers all had a story to tell.
Stephanie piled on the pounds as a teenager, living on a diet of takeaways, crisps and chocolate and was hitting the scales at almost 20 stone by the time she was 19.
As well as being told she was obese by her GP and may never have children, other areas of her health were suffering too.
“I had constant migraines, was lethargic 24/7 and the thought of doing some exercise would never cross my mind,” she said.
As her 21st birthday approached she plucked up the courage to join her local Scottish Slimmers class in Kirkcaldy and didn’t look back.
She is now looking forward to walking down the aisle in a size 10 dress when she marries Fraser in July 2014.
“Every year Slimmer of the Year just gets better and better with amazing stories and incredible weight losses,” said Alexandra Howie, Scottish Slimmers marketing director.
“There were literally hundreds of entries and yesterday at the final it was whittled down to 23 slimmers.
“But we must stress every one of the entries was a winner and we say congratulations to you all.”
