The first signs of work on Cupar’s new Aldi grocery store were apparent this week when diggers rolled into the South Road site.

The store, located next to Fisher and Donaldson’s bakery in Ceres Road, is due to be completed by June.

Graham Nicolson, property director for Aldi Stores Scotland, said he was delighted enabling works had begun on site.

“We are very excited by the prospect of bringing a new Aldi store store to Cupar .

“A number of trees and bushes were removed this week in order for construction to begin next week.”

While Aldi can’t give an exact timescale for the building work it is understood they will work within a fairly tight window and aim to have the store completed by the summer.

Mr Nicolson also confirmed that as well as the store and parking for shoppers, dedicated parking spaces will be set aside for nearby residents.

A spokesperson for Fife Council said changes to parking in South Road would not apply until new parking provision is created.
