Hundreds of entrants, in two age groups, were each pared down to a ‘magnificent seven’ weekly winners thanks to readers’ and judges’ votes - before you - the readers - selected the final winners from each age bracket.

The top accolade in the under-fives category went to two-year-old Ellie Parker, of Buckhaven. Runner-up was Jamie Dyce, of Leven.

The winner of the under-twos group was Daniel Bird, aged 17 months, of Leven, while in second place was Ollie Wilson, of Anstruther.

The delighted mums of both winners said they’d entered the competition mainly to have some good-quality portraits done of their children.

But when Ellie and first-time entrant Daniel were selected as weekly winners, their parents began hoping they might just have a chance of triumphing in the overall vote.

Daniel’s mum, Carrie Bird, an A&E receptionist at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital, admitted some “automatic bias” had crept in, but reckoned any proud parent would feel the same.

Young Daniel has a seven-year-old brother, Iain, and a baby sister Sarah, five months, while dad Brian Bird is in the Royal Navy.

Ellie’s mother, Natalie Slater, said it was “really good” to taste success this time round, having put her daughter forward for the competition last year as well.

Natalie and her partner Steven Parker are full-time parents to Ellie and her 10-week-old baby brother, Leo.

Daniel, Ellie and their families have some superb prizes to enjoy this year - both the winners will be receiving large, framed colour wall portraits, as well as a £100 shopping voucher from Sainsbury’s in Leven.

We’ll be in touch again soon with the winning families, and the judges, with details of our special prize presentation get-together.

In the meantime, the Mail extends its sincere thanks to all the parents and family members who entered the contest, and to everyone who voted.

Additionally, we are grateful to Sainsbury’s, Mark G. Rodgers Photography, Bankie Park Development Group, Aberlour Time 4 U, the Caledonian Hotel and the East Neuk Centre.
