Leven woman Andrea McEwan had a very special plus-one at her recent Fife College graduation - her dog Kola.
Andrea has been profoundly deaf since the age of five, and Kola is specially trained to help her ‘hear’ every day sounds such as the fire alarm, telephone, cooker timer, doorbell and alarm clock.
After taking voluntary redundancy from the Department of Work and Pensions two years ago, Andrea (45) decided to improve her qualifications and enrolled on the HND Administration and Technology course.
While at college, Kola accompanied Andrea at all times and always brought a smile to the faces of fellow students and staff.
Since graduating, Andrea has already secured full time employment with the Scottish Information Commissioner’s Office.
Andrea said: “I was delighted to be able to bring Kola to the Graduation ceremony and for her to cross the stage with me and share in my special day – if dogs could graduate she would definitely get first class honours!”
