Police in Fife are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault at a Kirkcaldy nightclub.

The incident happened around 1am within the smoking area of the Society venue in Charlotte Street.

An 18-year-old man was within the area when he was subjected to an unprovoked attack.

The victim sustained injuries to his face and was taken to the Victoria Hospital for treatment.

Local officers are now trying to trace whoever was responsible and are asking anyone who can assist with their inquiries to come forward.

Constable Sam Girdwood, from Community Investigation Unit, said: “At this time we do not know how many attackers were involved, but we believe a glass or glass bottle was used during this assault. Another male also sustained minor injuries during the disturbance.

“We would ask that anyone who was within the Society nightclub on Friday evening into Saturday morning and witnessed this incident contacts police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone with information that is relevant to this inquiry is also asked to get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
