We would also remind members of the public to ensure that their homes and vehicles are secured appropriately

Detective Constable Kieran Marsh

Officers said properties have been targeted by thieves in Tofthill and Newton Road.

A variety of personal items have been stolen, including a Dell laptop.

Police said that in general, dwellings that have not been secured have been targeted, and the suspects have been disturbed on a number of occasions during the early hours of the morning.

Enquiries are ongoing in relation to all of these incidents and positive lines of enquiry are being progressed at this time.

Detective Constable Kieran Marsh said: “I would like to appeal to anyone with information about those responsible, or the crimes themselves, to contact police.

“We would also remind members of the public to ensure that their homes and vehicles are secured appropriately and that all residents remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.”

This was a message re-iterated by Councillor John Beare who lives in Markinch.

He said: “The wider Markinch area appears to be being targeted by opportunist thieves.

“Please ensure that your doors and windows are properly secured and advise the police if you are aware of any suspicious activity.”

Those with information regarding these incidents can contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
