A LOCAL brass band is offering Fifers the chance to learn how to play an instrument.

Part of Buckhaven and Methil Miners Brass Band, Buckhaven Brass Beginnings was formed in 2007, and is looking for people aged from seven up to adults who would like to learn an instrument, or who have perhaps learned as a child, and would like to play again.

As well as offering tuition, the band plays at various concerts with Buckhaven Brass Band, most recently at a fundraiser for Buckhaven and Wemyss Parish Church.

The up and coming band has also recently appointed a new conductor and tutor in Ken Foster. A former cornet player with Wellesley Colliery Band, he has many years experience of brass bands.

His great-nephew Kyle O’Neill is currently learning to play the tenor horn, and his nieces, Marianne O’Neill and Heather Wight have also played with Buckhaven and Methil Miners Brass Band in recent years.

Buckhaven Brass Beginnings meets every Wednesday from 5.45-7pm in the Horsa hut, behind the Gardeners Hall, College Street, Buckhaven.
