ANOTHER Levenmouth store has become a casualty of dwindling sales on our high streets.
Last week it was announced Blockbuster Video, which has a branch in Bishop’s Court, Kennoway, has gone into administration.
The UK’s leading DVD rental chain had seen business steadily decline as customers increasingly favoured online film providers such as Netflix and Amazon.
Administrators Deloitte were called in after a failure to secure a sale of the UK business after a plunge in profits - the company had a deficit of £11.2m in 2012.
A spokesman for Blockbuster could not confirm how many jobs were at risk in Kennoway but said the company employed, on average, five people in each of its 528 branches across the UK.
Nor could they confirm when the Kennoway store opened, although Blockbuster Video itself started trading in 1989.
The Scottish branches - of which there are 66 - account for just over 11 per cent of total business in the UK.
He added: “All our stores will continue to trade as normal while a buyer is sought.”
The move comes just days after it was revealed administrators had been called into the struggling business Happit.
In late December, the Happit branch on Leven High Street stopped trading and XL Business Solutions revealed it had been appointed as administrator of Liric Ltd, which owns the brand.
When Liric Ltd took over the Leven store in May last year, five people worked at the branch.
