Maureen Bannister (43) was last seen about 2pm, when it is believed she left a house in Pitcairn Park in a blue-coloured Ford Focus with her dog, a black / grey-coloured cross-breed Yorkshire terrier. The dog was found shortly afterwards near her car in the Tayport area.

Maureen often walked her dog in the large forest, which backs on to Tayport.

The search got under way in the early hours of Monday morning but later in the evening, police confirmed a body had been found but had not been identified and enquiries were ongoing.

The search involved some 30 police officers, the Coast Guard, two lifeboats and a rescue helicopter.
