Body of 90-year-old found on Leven beach

A body discovered on Leven beach in the early hours of this morning is believed to be that of an elderly woman who had been reported missing.

Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat was called out just before 12.30 a.m. to assist in the search for the woman with a shoreline search from Methil to Leven, but when the lifeboat was off Buckhaven, the crew was stood down after a body was located on Leven Beach.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police in Fife can confirm the body of a 90-year-old woman was recovered near to Leven Promenade at around 1.00 a.m. this morning.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Also in attendance at the incident were Kinghorn and Leven Coastguard rescue teams, Police Scotland and Fife Fire and Rescue Service.
