FOUR Kirkcaldy friends, who have known each other since they were toddlers, are going to be taking part in a very BIG toddle this weekend.
Nicola Norcross (22), Sarah Hunter (23), Toni Smart (22), and Nadia Winnick (22), who all live in the town’s Dunnikier Estate, are taking part in the Moonwalk in Edinburgh on Saturday night as Team Breast Friends.
And the girls, who have never done anything like it before, have been training hard at every available opportunity, walking sections of the Fife Coastal Path, up Falkland Hill and in and around Kirkcaldy, as well as taking boxing classes at the gym in preparation for the challenge.
“It has been quite difficult as we all work full time, but in the evenings and at weekends we have been doing whatever we can to prepare ourselves,” said Nicola.
The girls decided to do the Moonwalk after one of their mums was recently given the all-clear after suffering from breast cancer.
Nicola added: “We all wanted to do something to mark the milestone and we had all heard of the Moonwalk, so chose to do it.
“We decided that if we were going to do it then it would be the full 26 miles, which is quite daunting as none of us has ever done anything like that before.”
To help boost their total they held a race night at Styx in Kirkcaldy a few weeks ago, raising £900.
“Everyone was really generous and we had a lot of support from local businesses who donated prizes for a raffle, which really helped,” said Nicola. “We have doubled our initial target of £1000, which is great.
“We would like to thank everyone who has been so generous and we are all very excited about doing the Moonwalk in our specially decorated bras which we have covered in feathers and tinsel for the occasion.”
