A KIRKCALDY schoolgirl has raised over £2000 after proving baking can be a piece of cake by writing her own recipe book.

Brooke Simpson (12) compiled the cookbook ‘The Breast Baking Book in the Land’ herself and pledged to donate the proceeds to the breast cancer care unit at Queen Margaret Hospital.

Her mum Joy was diagnosed with breast cancer and completed her treatment two years ago. In the dedication at the front of the cookbook, Brooke said she wanted to raise money for the unit “so it can help other people in the way it helped my mum”.

This week Brooke visited the hospital to hand over the cheque for more than £2000.

Brooke’s book contains dozens of recipes, everything from breads and tea loafs to chocolate whoopie pies and cinnamon cake, with a dedication at the front from Brooke.

McGilvray Printers in Dysart printed the books for free to help the schoolgirl raise as much money as she could for the cause.
