PLANS for a new £33 million Auchmuty High School are expected to be approved by the Glenrothes Area Committee.

If it goes ahead the school will open in late 2014 or early 2015, with work beginning next year.

The current buildings at Auchmuty High date back to the 1950s and 1970s.

Although the new building would be smaller than the existing school, it has been designed to accommodate 1300 pupils, with the current school roll at 1285. It will be built on the existing playing fields, with new fields created on the site of the old school.

Councillors have been recommended to give conditional approval to the project at today’s meeting.
