Nursing home’s 60 jobs

A Kirkcaldy company is set to redevelop a local nursing home and create around 60 permanent full time jobs.

Colin and Margaret Smart of Kingdom Homes, based in Mitchelston Industrial Estate, have announced they are to transform Edward House Nursing Home in Falkland, which closed in November 2009.

The re-development will feature the demolition of the existing buildings and construction of a 50-bed nursing home on the site.

The main contractor will be appointed soon and it is hoped work will start this spring. It’s thought the move will provide jobs during the construction process and create 60 much needed full time positions for the area once the nursing home is fully operational.

Mr Smart said: “As a care home the old building wasn’t fit for purpose, so the best course of action was to demolish it and build a new state of the art care home in its place.’’

“I will also be in discussions with the local community council with a view to minimising disruption to residents during the construction period.”

Following a specific request by a resident, the new nursing home will revert to its previous name - Lomond Vale - when it re-opens in the spring of 2013.
