A KIRKCALDY company has raised a toast to a successful first year in business - and the help they got from the ‘Be Your Own Boss’ scheme.

JP Direct Ltd, based in Mitchelston Industrial Estate, is a supplier of catering equipment, and kitchen and washroom disposables to nightclubs, bars and restaurants.

Launched by John Duncan and Peter Nelson, it marked its first year of trading on Friday.

The businessmen have many years experience in the sector and last year decided to start their own business.

And in 2012 they are set to double turnover to £500,000, as they look to recruit staff, launch a website and a new product catalogue.

John said, “The ‘Be Your Own Boss’ team were fantastic.

‘‘We already had a business plan and considerable experience in the trade so it was a surprise to discover that they could still help us with advice, grant funding towards equipment plus help negotiate a great deal on office costs.

‘‘That made a big difference and helped us to get started with lower costs.”

Joyce Duncan, managing director of Impact 21 which delivers the Be Your Own Boss programme, said, “JP Direct are a great example of how starting a business in difficult economic times can work if you get the right advice and as much support as you can. ‘‘
