A Glenrothes retailer has scooped a prestigious business award after being named ‘Best Independent Gift Retailer in Scotland’.

Staff from Harvey Willis, jumped for joy as the award was announced at a glittering ceremony at London’s Savoy Hotel recently.

“We are delighted, the awards are a bit like the Oscar’s for the UK’s gift retailer,” said owner Susan Kerr.

The shop, which was formerly ‘Body Needs’ has been based in the town’s Kingdom Shopping Centre for the last 22 years.

And while being nominated for awards before, it’s the first time the retailer that specialises in luxury gifts, candles, ornaments and jewellery had been presented the overall retailer of the year accolade.

Susan and husband John employ seven staff at the shop said it’s a tough climate for retailers but the award shows everyone just what can be achieved.

“We’ve focused heavily on continuously improving our product ranges and while the online aspect of retail is becoming ever more popular, we feel it’s the personal service and attention to our customers that has been on of the most important factors in the shop’s success”, added Susan.

“With the nomination for the award coming from within the industry, it also proves a good relationship with suppliers is vital.

“We are particularly pleased that we’ve been recognised for that aspect.”
