A woman from Crail has made the best of a bad situation after being made redundant last year.

Fiona Woodcock (28) was manager at the St Andrews branch of Clinton Cards, but was given just two weeks notice of her redundancy after the company was put in to administration.

However, using her skills and knowledge gained working for the national card retailer, and with a little help from Business Gateway and its New Enterprise Allowance Scheme, Fiona has picked herself back up and is now the proud owner of ‘Occasions’ on Market Street, St Andrews.

“Losing my job was a nightmare,” said Fiona. “But through the process of setting up on my own I have learnt that I can achieve a lot in a short space of time.

“Every day the business gets that little bit busier, and because it’s my own shop it doesn’t feel like I am coming into work each day. It’s also great when former Clinton’s customers come in and realise the business is mine.”
