A GROUP has been set up to try to find funding for a new sports hall for Cardenden.
With local football and other sports groups in the village identifying an urgent need for an indoor facility, a steering group has been formed to take the matter forward.
On the group are members of the John Thomson Memorial committee, representatives from the six local football teams, Cardenden Community Council, Ore Valley Housing Association, Bowhill Centre and the Purvis Group from Lochgelly.
Alex Burns, chairman of the group, said: “I can appreciate the frustrations felt by the football teams regarding the lack of an indoor football training facility as I was involved in organising football teams for over 25 years.
“Our local primary schools would also benefit from an indoor facility to help improve their skills working towards participating in a number of annual football competitions held in the village.”
He said the group would also attempt to include other facilities for sports such as netball and basketball.
A fund has already been started through the John Thomson Committee, with money raised through a sponsored walk before the annual football tournament.
