North Glenrothes Community Council’s bid to raise the £120,000 necessary for a new multi use games area (MUGA) has received a boost.

Councillors at this month’s Glenrothes Area Committee agreed to a £20,000 contribution to the project’s costs, with funding being taken form Ward 15 budget and a local community priority scheme fund.

The community council has already liaised with Fife Council’s parks development service to draw up plans of for the project and have also secured planning permission for the work to start once the funding total is reached.

They have also secured a £50,000 commitment from the Commonwealth Legacy Fund and still have a number of applications pending including those with Fife Environmental Trust (£30,000), Robertson Trust (£10,000), Hugh Fraser Foundation (£8,000) and Russell Trust (£2,000).

A report to councillors advised the project would further enhance park facilities as well as provide an additional attraction alongside sports hub, which makes up a separate proposal.
